What We're Giving Away

Awake at 3am, I'm thinking about corporatism, fascism and our sorry asses. Read this: Congress is Giving Away the Internet, and You Won't Like Who Gets It, found by way of AmericaBlog. And here's more, from Hullabaloo.

Stopped here via Ryan's blog and I have to ask, where did you get the Thoreau quote? I've never heard of it, but absolutely love it.

Hi Hamel! Thanks for stopping by!

The quote is from the first chapter of Walden. "The greater part of what my neighbors call good I believe in my soul to be bad, and if I repent of anything, it is very likely to be my good behavior. What demon possessed me that I behaved so well?..."

Do you like Thoreau? Just a few lines before he said, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things."

Two of my favorite people in this surreal otherworld we occupy... I expected a dialogue between you two long before now.

Ain't it grand?

Best,
Ryan

I've been thinking about 'community' lately, and how it's changing. Yes, it's an interesting ride in this surreal otherworld isn't it, Best Ryan?
